The local people of this village, Nagaun, call the village 'Nagan'. Its ancient name
is 'Nabanirmitagram', which means 'newly settled village'. As it is a
totally Newar dominant village, the locals Newars may have called it 'Nagan' which also
means 'newly settled village'. 'Jayapur' is thought to
be another ancient name. It is believed that this village was established after
Kirtipur and Panga. But, acceding to the inscription written by the Lichhavi King Vasant Dev in the year
B.S. 542, the old name of Nagaun is 'Nava Grama'. And, according to
this inscription, this village is older than Kirtipur town and Panga Village.

The villagers celebrate a different festival name 'Dhalcha Khahegu'. This festival is celebrated in the Nepalese month of Mangsir, on the day before the festival of Bishnu Devi - Balkumari, which is celebrated in Panga.
